HOCKING COUNTY OUTPATIENT HOCKING COUNTY BEHAVIORAL HEALTHCARE SERVICES

The Hunter Street location of Hocking County Behavioral Healthcare Services serves as the headquarters for school and community based programming. Mental Health individual, group and family clinical support is available, in addition to prevention, intervention, case management and community outreach.

E.A.G.E.R. (Elementary Activities for Growth and Encouragement of Responsibility):

Through small group interaction and experiential learning, this prevention/early intervention program serves all nine elementary schools in the Logan-Hocking Local School District and the Laurelville Elementary School in the Logan Elm School District. The program targets "at risk" students, kindergarten through fifth grade. EAGER can serve as the entry level to child and family counseling. Through consultation between the school personnel and the EAGER Specialists, referrals to counseling can be made.

The core component of the program is the six-week, in-school classes that are designed to build self-esteem, define and understand feelings, encourage good decision-making skills, and teach anti-bullying coping techniques.

Additional components of the elementary program

1. Classroom Presentations targeting bullying, tattling, self-esteem building, anger management, friendship/peer pressure, decision-making, or specific topic the classroom teacher requests.

2. E.A.G.E.R. Summer Day Camps available to all Hocking County children, grades first through fifth. These camps are held at various Hocking County locations. They focus on recreational and social enrichment activities designed to reinforce positive development.

3. E.A.G.E.R. Family Activities include skating parties and the annual swim party.

4. Consultation and Referral Services connecting school personnel, community agencies and parents can be facilitated by EAGER specialists.

5. Counseling Services/Child Case Management are available for program participants and their families.

6. Public Awareness Programs are presented through radio public service announcements. Hocking County Family Newsletters, and other public assistance programs.

E.A.G.E.R. II (Effective Activities for Growth and Encouragement of Responsibility):

Through small group interaction and experiential learning, this prevention/early intervention program is designed specifically for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students in the Logan-Hocking Middle School.

This in-school program is designed to raise an adolescent's self-esteem, enhance coping skills, and encourage good decision-making skills. Adolescents encountering academic and/or adjustment problems may participate in this program by either self-referral, referral through a school guidance counselor, or the school personnel may suggest that an adolescent be enrolled with the permission of his/her parent or legal guardian.

E.A.G.E.R. II is a ten-week program offered three times a year. Through consultation with school personnel, the EAGER Specialist may refer participants/family to individual or family counseling or to Family Education and Support Classes.

Diversion Program: This program, offered by Hocking County Juvenile Court through Hocking County Behavioral Healthcare Services, is designed to provide first time offenders with a voluntary alternative to the customary juvenile justice system process. It is believed that intervention, which stresses becoming sensitive to present needs and potential problem areas of an adolescent while developing responsible decision-making, can effectively reduce the chances of that adolescent becoming involved with the juvenile justice system in the future.

0hio Department of Education 21st Century Grant: The Logan-Hocking Schools, through receipt of the Ohio Department of Education 21st Century Grant, will be providing before and after care at three elementary sites in Hocking County. The Logan site of Health Recovery Services, Inc. provides BABES (Beginning Alcohol and Addictions Basic Education Studies) presentation to these three elementary schools.

We provide weekly 1-hour sessions at each school site on a twelve-week rotating basis (36 total) throughout the school year. We also will participate in two family nights during the school year. Child centered activities are planned and implemented by the local BABES facilitator.
This grant will also assist with the cost of 6 summer EAGER day camps throughout the county.

Counseling: Individual and/or family counseling is available to children and families of Hocking County. Clinical counselors provide assessment and treatment services. Consultation with Psychiatric services is also available if appropriate.

Child Case Management: This community support service is available to children and families of Hocking County. Following an initial assessment counseling and/or child case management services may be provided to children and their families. Case management offers individual and group work provided in the individual's home, school, and community. The individual, family, counselor, and case manager work together to identify goals to support the individual's emotional growth and development.
